Hi all, this is the first year I Have successfully grown onions! Hard to believe really but they had been my nemesis up until now! The stalks have started falling over and some even have flowers?! Would you say they are ready to lift? Also how about drying, there seems to be a mixture of methods, please help

if they have died back then i would lift as for drying all round air flow is a must i have mine in my cold frame on the racking with the door rolled up and they are doing well

You need to think about the ones that have flowered.  You could let them go to seed to give you seed for next year, or, if you want to use them, you need to chop the flower heads off (good in arrangements!) and use them first.  They wont store - all the energy went into that flower head.

Thanks for the idea about drying in the cold frame - I've been tearing my hair out trying to think where to put them!

Thanks for the advice, sorry I haven't posted I've had a poorly chook who sadly had to be put to rest today.

I can't wait to try the onions, will probably have salad for dinner tomorrow.
