I got my plot this time last year and as with most plots the reason it was available the previous owner had not been able to work it.  I could do the first bit dig and clear.  Then on my first day one the regulars ( sounds nicer than old guy/gal) started to point out there were strawberry plants raspberries and other plants I was about to consign to the comunual compost heap.  

Then every other day since all I do is ask, they do not say you shouldn't do that they say this works on my plot.  In fact one "old guy" who has had a plot for 38 years says this worked last year but didn't for X number of years.  I find most people say that this game involves a load of luck and if anyone claims to know what works hasn't worked the game yet.  

So I am in favour of listening and learning I already love my plot so imagine what I would be in like in 10,20,30 years time.  They love the game and have stayed the time and will have seen thousands of newbies come and go.  They are rich resource of information unless off course they are arrogant know it alls, I am pleased to say I have not met many on my site.

couldn't agree with you more nilsatis...being one of the old gals my-self,
only had my plot 6yrs tho. and the old boys were, and still are a great mind
of information and help, they took a while to get used to my way of planting..
in blocks rather than straight rows, a bit new for them!!

we chat about all sorts, not just plants, a bit like this site really
and I consider them good friends..one told me to help my-self to
his blackcurrants, gave him a nice pot of jam as thanks. they're
a great bunch of guys.

my plot is my little bit of heaven.
