you could of course posted this on the same topic as your post about her scaly leg problem as it is obviously linked rather than starting up a new thread. I just assumed it was a different hen.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thank you everyone, my question has been answered.
Okay

Sooty has scaly leg which has affected her comb and wattles extremely badly. She also has staphylococcal.

We took her to the vet who gave us some antibiotics to give her and also benzyl benzoate to put on all affected areas.

She must've reacted badly to something, as unfortunately her condition is getting worse, so we are going to take her back to the vets.
Her comb is as hard as rock and thoroughly black. Her wattles are very sore and scabby.

I'm sure she has lost quite a bit of weight.

Oh I see.  No I hadn't seen the previous thread you girls had been gossiping away on another thread while I was on holiday in NorthYorshire then.  Thanks for clearing that up Aunt Sally.

Hope all goes better at the vets then.
HF

Thank you hillfooter  :) :) :) :) :)

If you make a post that refers to another topic maybe it would be a good idea to post a link to it.  Saves confusion. :)

Sorry Ice, we don't know how to post links

What do other family members think is wrong ?

Hillfooters rehydration scheme is very good.

Nothing is wrong with it at all - it's very good :)
I thought I'd describe what's wrong with Sooty because hillfooter thought she may have sour or impacted crop and she doesn't, so I thought I'd explain what's wrong with her.
Hillfooter's suggestion is very helpful

No PC.  I meant what does you family think is wrong with the hen.

Sorry Aunt Sally. We don't know what's wrong with her, but agree with what the vet has diagnosed her with.

you could of course posted this on the same topic as your post about her scaly leg problem as it is obviously linked rather than starting up a new thread. I just assumed it was a different hen.

Hi joyfull. I posted a new topic because I didn't think I needed to explain what's wrong with the hen, I just wanted to know what we could use to syringe feed her with.
All lives are precious.

I'd love to know how she's getting on PC, I do hope she perks up and that she eats and drinks a little to get her energy back to fight off her illness. You're obviously giving her lots of tlc and we all know how much our girls love a good spoiling  ::) Fingers crossed for her x

We're about to syringe feed Sooty.

How much cat food shall we put in? We're not making a load of mixture (pellets, warm water and cat food).
How much shall I feed her?

Will appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks in advance

How did it go PC ?

It's nice of you to ask - thank you :)
But we havn't done it yet as we thought we'd wait and see if anyone suggests how much to give her. We don't want to over feed her, but of course, we don't want to under feed her either.

We managed to give her some, but she was struggling quite a bit and we don't want to stress her and her use up the little energy she has. We'll try and give her some more later.

little and often (the same with the fluids) is the best way - until you can get her to a vets.

Is she taking any fluids? Tempted one of ours with a small bowl that I held close to her which she managed to drink from when she didn't want any foods. I know you have to use a syringe as a last resort, but it's still a little stressful for them (and us!)
