« on: July 22, 2010, 12:09 »
last week we had lots of gooseberries on the new plants on the allotment, within 4 days they have all gone, every single one, i dont think they would be ready to eat, and they looked to be too big for the birds, so where have they all gone ?.

I was told in the farm shop the other day that they were now out of season. Shouldn't make a difference to where yours have disappeared to though. Any chance someone has helped themselves? This happened to my plum tree the other year  >:(

They should be well ready, mine are over.

Birds will strip them, if not netted.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Blame the birds - lost all my unripe gooseberries and blackcurrents to the birds in a couple of days. The strawbs and raspberries were untouched which I found odd, but it was definately birds. Mostly blackbirds, but aslo pigeons - which sat in the current bushes and broke off next year's fruiting stems.
