White Lisbon spring onions and pickling
« on: July 21, 2010, 21:47 »
I still have loads of onions which are bulbing fabulously at the moment and i am wondering whether they'd be allright to pickle? I have enough for two or three decent sized jars and although silverskin varieties are meant to be the one's to pickle, is there any obvious reason i couldn't use White Lisbons?

Any thoughts appreciated!!

They woud be fine, but are tricky to skin  :)

Thanks for the reply. How many layers need to come off or is it just the papery bit down the one side of the bulb...

Just the papery bit. I soaked them in salty water for a day last year and then the skins came off a bit easier.

Had wuite a lot that had stayed in a large pot in the gardnen and bulbed up, so it seemed a good use for them at the end of the season.
