Hi everyone, this is my first post! r2d2 is the name of my boat.

I am a keen fisherman and eat my catch, My question is can i use the fish bones and trimmings as fertiliser? what prep would it require or would it just stink!

It would certainly seem a shame to just throw away such a mineral-rich source of nutrients but on a relatively small scale I can't see how you can do anything other than freeze it all in bags until you have enough to bury (under a tree, in a trench?) otherwise the pong would be unbearable!

Even then I would think twice about it if I knew I had foxes in the area.............

My dad used to bury a fish at the base of his grape vine - do not know that it helped. He had lots of leaves and very bitter fruit but that was probably because of our cold, damp weather.

Hi Mike welcome to the forum. I do a bit of boat dangling myself and have always dug the heads and frames into the ground after a filleting session.
Dig it in at least a spit deep to avoid any smell or the local cats digging it back up. Next years runner bean trench is a good home for it but at this time of year you have to put it anywhere you have a bit of empty ground.
Its a good idea to mark both ends of the hole with a stick so you do not exhume the old stuff when you bury more. It honks !
