Hens Vs rain??
« on: July 20, 2010, 21:43 »
With all this rain we're having, (Yes, RAIN!! Torrential as I'm typing this)

I would like to ask, should I be letting the chooks out of the coop and into their run before I go to work as normal, then into the garden, when I get in from work??

They come out, then don't want to take shelter.  .

Within minutes they look like drowned rats but it doesn't seem to bother them, they just keep on pecking around as if the sun was shining.

They won't catch cold, will they??

Ours are let out in all weathers, as long as they have somewhere to go if they want to take shelter they will be fine.
Dont count ya chickens till they hatch!!!!!

As long as they have somewhere to shelter if they need to, they should be ok. Mine will stay out for ages in the rain, but hate high winds and snow. Try and make sure that their food is in a dry and accessible place though, as it will quickly turn to mush otherwise.

Mine are out in all weathers too, and use the goose house to shelter in, but quite often, as they're daft, they don't. But its there if they need it.
