Our maran is now over 30 weeks old and shows no signs of laying, she looks healthy and eats and drinks well, no other problems, any ideas would be welcome.  Is there anything I can do to bring her into lay?  thanks alison

30 weeks is not unusual for a pure bred chicken to start to lay.  I'm afraid you will just have to be patient.

Also note that as a pure breed, she may not lay as prolifically as a hybrid (maybe four or five eggs a week), and as she lays the eggs will get lighter over time until moulting/winter when she takes a break; then the eggs will get darker again.

My cuckoo maran was about 30 weeks old when she started laying.  She is my best layer now - lays nearly every day.  I have a light sussex who is just coming up to the year and she hasn't laid one single egg
