Help with courgette pricing please
« on: July 19, 2010, 19:04 »
As usual I have a glut of courgettes - already my children are asking for a meal that DOESN'T include them!

A couple of non-gardening colleagues have said they'd like some of my excess produce and want to know how much they should pay for courgettes.  They're adamant that I've done the work and they'd have to buy them from somewhere so it may as well be from me.

I have no idea what to charge.  I know it sounds silly but I don't want to do it by weight because I can't be bothered with having to take scales into work.  I thought the best way was to say x amount per courgette.  They're all about the same size.

Has any one got any suggestions as to how much I should charge?

We have a little pot at work, and any money for plants or veg goes in [at the person's discretion] and we buy cake every now and then from it.

Good Idea ! You could give the money raised to your favourite charity. In these hard times any charity would be grateful for donations.Speaking as the Manager of a Charity for the last 35 years I can only say, please support those who are helping others.

You could always buy yummy fresh fruit -- a sort you don't grow of course  :D

Or put it as your share towards the Christmas party or Secret Santa present.

Or a nice office poster of Brad Pitt

I would say that it's really up to you;  tesco sells them for about 33p each however I would be more inclined to put an 'honesty box' up so that people could pay what they feel they are worth.

perhaps just to get them sold if you really want to put a price on them you could say a nice round 20p - 5 sold is £1 and that nearly covers the cost of next years seeds

Sorry

They are ridiculously expensive in the supermarkets, so price them up per average size courgette and half it.  Thats what I'd do

Give them away, FOC, we grow way to much in our SMALL garden, but part of the fun is being able to give any excess to our friends and family...it makes us happy to pass a marrow or toms over the fence, and to see how delighted people are to receive them...
