URGENT ADVICE NEEDED
« on: July 19, 2010, 18:45 »
I am a new hen keeper and my 10 week old hen's wing is hanging lower at one side today (she has been climbing on her coop and jumping down so not sure if this has caused it) it appears to be the flight feathers that are hanging down. She will let me pick her up and move her wing and doesn't seem to be in any pain and is eating and drinking normally.  I cant feel any obvious breaks in the bones but the lower part of her wing hangs a good four inches lower than the other side.  Is this likely to be a problem and what would you do?

3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)

Sorry to say I think this might be a vet visit.
My only experience of something similar was a pullet with a droopy wing and a limp. I'm afraid she had Marek's disease and it got worse over 4 weeks eventually deteriorating to the point where she was put to sleep. Hopefully it will be something treatable for your little chick. Fingers crossed.

Took her to the vets this morning, and he said that she's damaged the wing and it's a bit swollen, but she'll be absolutely fine in a few days. Thanks for the help!

That's good, I'm glad she's okay  :)
