Devastated by fox attack
« on: July 18, 2010, 17:20 »
Well been lucky so far, but this morning i woke up to the devastating mess that our unwelcome visitor left behind last night!!! Every single one of my babies was either killed or taken away by the fox, every duckling that i hatched this year has gone! he left 6, 1 that we had to kill ourselves and 1 that i don't think will last much longer, i am devastated by this and have been crying most of the day, and have only just been able to bring myself to get on here and let you all know what has happened.
Dont count ya chickens till they hatch!!!!!

So So So Sorry to hear about your loss.  :( There is nothing anyone can say that will make it any better at the moment >:(  But I do feel for you, and I know there will be many more chicken keepers who will feel the same.  When you are over it if you need advice about trying to prevent it happening again I am sure there will be lots of people with idea.  In the meantime I will be thinking of you and sympathising

Love Sue

Thank you Sue, i didn't think they would get in, but they dug under the house and went in that way, i have moved the remaining ones out, and we are looking at electric lines etc, what is worse is that all the ones he/she killed were all this years hatch, i have had so much trouble with hatching ducks this year i was so pleased i had managed to get what i did. and to see them all there with no heads or just biten and left, is so upsetting

No he left me a chocolate runner, 2 cresteds, and  3 alyesburys Willie was in another pen, recovering from his man problem!!!!! He killed my 2 chestnut Teals, 4 pure choc runners, 2 blue runners, 4 alyesburys, 1 silver/blue runner, 3 saxonys, all the girl runners and my maderins were in another pen, so still have them.

Doesn't make up for all the hard work you put it, hours and hours of looking after them, to be wiped out by a BL****Y fox! Gosh i am so angry, i just hope we catch it! i sat there this morning with all those babies dead in my arms and could make no sense of it, why do they have to kill every thing? I could except one or 2 but 17 birds!!! I will come back stronger and he wont get the better of me!

I really hope you do.
I've only lost one to the fox, and was devastated, so really feel for you losing 17.

My thoughts are with you.  :(

I will come back stronger and he wont get the better of me!

Sorry about your loss which right now maybe devastating but that's the spirit.  You will recover and what you learn will make you a better keeper.

Best wishes
