Clay is not rubbish, clay is good. . You just have to work it. If it`s too dry to work, then give it a good soaking the night before digging it, and DO NOT WALK on it afterwards. :D

I think you should just put growbags or split open 70l compost bags in the bottom of the clay trench. Then you could even take them with you when you go!

Not a lazy gardener, just one that is moving home next year and needs a simple, quick solution to her problem.

Yes, David, if this was my house and i was staying here then i would prepare the ground well enough for me to do my gardening. As stated before, not my house, no money, quick fix solution as have only just got the greenhouse! thanks for your input anyway, but the problem has been solved.

Thanks to everyone for your useful input and ideas!!!! ::)

That's a bit harsh, David   --- growbags have their uses and nuttytart explained she is planning to move.

I'm not planning on moving, i have to move! if i could i would be staying here and i would buy the house, but it's not mine and the land lord wants it back!!!
As explained, if i was staying here, i would be doing all i could, in fact i would be completly redesigning the garden and having a massive plot! I have been out this afternoon and got some large bags of compost to put into the trenches!
don't know what i'm planning on growing in there though!
