Hmmm. Broiled Caterpillers. Nice. Like you say. It's all nutrition isn't it? What more could you ask from your veg?

What's worse is when you blanch, freeze, then cook some cauliflower for guests and they find bugs crawling out of the cauli after all that  A friend had that happen.

When I was a kid my mum used to boil a full cauli head and portion it up on plates. One t time a White billed caterpillar droped out of mine! Put me off as a kid, but now I won't eat cauli covered in sauce at all and will only eat/ cook it when it has been separated into florets! I do the same with broccoli :) lol

I came home on Sunday pleased as punch having picked my first ever, ever cauli.

Plunged it into cold water to get rid of the few aphids I could see on it.  To my horror 3 caterpillars emerged.

It was only when I went to cut it up I found several more.  Had to go over it very carefully!

Didn't spoil the flavour though.

I found a gap at the base of my netting..... since covered up!
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

I always soak cauliflower in cold water with a little salt added , the caterpillars emerge dead and are removed . I wash the cauli again in fresh water  and inspect the florets thoroughlybefore cooking.

Ah - just been to add some salt to the water mine are soaking in.
The aphids are still clinging on for dear life, I notice.  Little blighters.
