we have grown onions, some of them are not very big, can i pickle them or not.

I suppose why not, what's your pickling mixture?

i was going to just use pickling vinegar.

When did you plant them?

My overwintered ones are ready to lift but those I planted in spring still have a long way to go so it might be worth leaving yours in the ground. The recent rain should swell them.

they were tiny onions and planted in the spring, most of the leaves are laying down, but still green, will leave for longer see if they grow anymore. thanks

I would leave them be, its really too soon.  Probably a lack of water is making the leaves droop.  My hubby weeded them last week and a few of them were starting to rot , so we took them out, but the other seem ok.  It will be September before I will think about taking them out.

About pickling them, if you can pickle shallots, why not onions.  In fact, in mum used to slice onions and put them in ordinary vinegar, and they were gorgeous on cheese sandwiches, although, that's not really pickling.  But certainly go ahead to pickle properly - let us know how they are doing.
