Ulster Chieftan did well for me this year, both yield & taste.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

So far I have had Swift and Rocket, both produced good crops, taste is ok, next up is Pentland Javlin.

My Pentland Javelin are very good, lots of tatties per plant but a bit tasteless.  Won't do them again, I'll see what you all say on this and go for something tastier next year.

So far our top favourite is one called Allians.  It's a lovely waxy salad potato.  We got about 10 different varieties from the Potato Fair in Whitchurch and haven't got round to trying them all yet....so it might not hold the top spot for long!

We did this last year, and from all the responses we had, I chose Duke of York and Ulster Chieftain for this year, both taste lovely, but must admit that best yield and tattie size have been Ulster Chieftain, especially considering that I didn't plant them until 8th April, so they've not been in 12 weeks yet!!!!

my first ones out have been duke of york - and they are very good in taste, size and yeild.

i'm onto kestrel now - haven't tried them yet - but they look great.

i have also had a peek at one of my main crops - marfona - and they are bulking up nicely too

i'm also doing foremost, charlotte and pentland dell - but haven't tried those yet.

I may try Arran Pilot next year then, but there are soooo many to choose from aren't there???

And I am at the moment resisting peeking at my maincrop.  I got Desiree this year as my red King Edwards didn't do too well last year.

Have been eating Charlottes for a couple of weeks.  These are waxy salad potatoes with a great taste and consistency and the skins just fall off the tubers so easy to prepare.  Excellent to eat both cold and hot.  Recent rain has done wonders for the yield - but no more rain please!.  I'm also fond of Belle de Fontenay and Anya.
