Courgettes or Triffids
« on: July 09, 2010, 11:12 »
I've just eaten my first ever homegrown courgette (free from the Beeb) but they are taking over the greenhouse!
I,m new to this growing your own so how much foliage (if any) can I chop off?
These triffids share my little greenhouse with 10 tomato plants which could also do with a short back and sides.
I've got the scissors ready - just need the go ahead!!

Would I be right in thinking you can't move them outside? (courgettes don't need to be grown in a greenhouse.)

Not really a good idea to remove anything other than old, dying leaves; courgettes continually produce new leaves and flowers from the stem shoot and you will weaken the plant if you remove too many (maybe not such a bad thing in your case?)

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Thanks JayG
I can move them I just thought they'd be comfier inside!
Should I put them out  and back in at night for a while and what mix of soil to plant in please and what am I going to use my scissors for now?

You say they are moveable so I'm assuming that they are being grown in pots; just move the pots outdoors. Bringing them in at night for a few days is always a good idea although the weather is so mild at the moment you would probably get away with it.

Not the time to be repotting fully grown and fruiting courgettes methinks!

Thanks, you too!

(Didn't answer you question about the scissors, but only because I wanted to avoid making any cutting remarks!  :nowink: )
