Help! Carrot fly strike!
« on: July 06, 2010, 20:36 »
Well...I got away with it last year and thought it was ok this year (raised beds are 18" high) BUT the critters have found me carrots!!! Pulled some today and a few tips to the roots are going black and they taste bitter.
What should I do? Harvest what I can then let the chickens dig about to get rid of the worms?
I'm concerned about the parsnips at the other side of the bed. Should I dig up a couple and see if they're infected?

Don't know about carrots but in my experience parsnips normally grow big enough for you to be able to cut the damaged bits off at harvest time and still have enough to go round  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
