PLOT RAIDED
« on: June 25, 2007, 19:23 »
Hi everyone,
I have today been to my plot & found that my Cabbage, Cauliflower, Spinnach & Lettuce have all been pulled up & left in the ditches.
They all seem to be about 2 to 3 inches long.

Could this have been birds ?

I'd imagine if it had been birds they would not have dumped them all in a ditch. I'm sure they have better things to do.

Have they been eaten at all, is this your plot at home or on a site ?

My plot is at home.
We have had some heavy rain here last night & today but I can't see this doing it ! No, they do not appear to have been eaten.
 Any other ideas ?

No unless they where washed away  :!:

I suppose you could have a mad magpie or similar about that may do this, but I really wouldn't of thought so, the odd one or two possibly but not all  :?

Someone else may have some ideas.

 OK. Thanks
I have seen Black birds or crows & sparrows (I think). The black birds don't seem interested in the plot but the sparrows are always in the plot but a bit of a coinidence for them to pull them all up on one night or morning.

seems a bit of a thick question but could anyone get to your plot to do a bit of  silly vandalism?

Been to plot again today, only to catch the culprit in action. I must say that from what most have been saying, that I was begining to believe that it was my kids !!! How wrong you were.
The culprits werw Crows, They have more or less destroyed my whole crop except my potato plants !!!

Am I to late to seed anything else for this season ???

Then maybe a scarecrow would be a good idea and depending on ages of kids they might like to help make it

Not as good as a larsen trap, this years tally is over 100 crows and magpies.
When we started 3 years ago we did over 400 in 5 months, next year about 200, and now we are down to a bout a 100.  And oh my god has the singbird population exploded around here, I mean skyrocketed, incredible.

Spoke to some RSPCA guy last year when a concerned neighbour complained about the traps, he came in had a cup of tea, enjoyed a pleasant summers afternoon and told me just to be a bit more discreet...
