Aubergines
« on: July 03, 2010, 17:20 »
I have quite a few small aubergine plants.  I am unsure whether to try my luck outside planted in my allotment.  Has anyone grown these before outdoors or do you suggest in the greenhouse would be my best option?  Also do they need netting up?
Thank you

Of tomatoes, chilli and sweet peppers, and aubergines I would say that aubergines are least likely to flourish out in the open, especially as you are a bit oop north!

Since you've got several plants why not try half and half?

If you mean netting up like melons then no!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Last year I had aubergines inside and out. The outside ones were later but more abundant, presumably pollination was better outside. It probably depends what the weather does for the rest of the year.

Good advice, yes I might try this doing half and half...certainly plenty to go at!  I meant netting up outside against any pests like pigeons and if I need one for the fruits then hey you will be the first to see the pictures ha ha ha.  Thanks very much
