I planted our peas too close to the sugarsnaps and mangetout and now I can't tell the difference! They have 'flopped over' and 'intermingled'. Have learnt a very valuable lesson for next year - space them out! :D

Last year not a single pea made it to the kitchen me and the kids ate the lot whilst "working" on the plot. So far this year it's exactly the same. They do taste nice though it's a shame to cook them really.

My kids just love raw peas and they snaffle them off the plants.

I sowed petits pois which I think are even more delicious!!  The trouble is, if I ask them to do the shelling I reckon I only get half of the peas back that I should, cos they've eaten them....

the pigeons on my plot would agree with you all!

i've taken to eating mine before the wildlife do, otherwise I won't have enough to even consider cooking them

I completely agree. If you want to cook peas buy a bag from Iceland.

in my case its not me and the KIDS that eat the peas whilst picking them, but me and the DOG! lol  Penny follows me around when I am harvesting, she loves the tomatoes too, and small courgettes!

I love them both raw and cooked.  Have grown masses this year, but the last lot got nibbled by mice and never really took off.  Next year I'll start them all in the cold frame.  Ah well, we live and learn!

I'm all for encouraging the kids to eat veg, whether raw or cooked.  My 15 year old has provided me with a list of veg I should grow which he will eat.  Only trouble is I'm having difficulty finding spaghetti seeds (which is on his list)!!

SUTTY1:

Excellent suggestion. Any child who wants a spaghetti plant would love preparing spaghetti squash!

Cooking peas should be a capital offence, apart from showing a bit of leniency at Christmas towards the rest of the family, when you cook the pea you froze especially for them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
