Polka raspberries
« on: June 28, 2010, 23:59 »
Tried to be clever this year and get 2 crops from my Autumn fruiting rasps. by letting last year's canes fruit again.
Turns out it wasn't that good an idea....quite a lot of Summer fruit but small, slightly sour berries.
Luckily the Autumn canes are good and strong so I'm looking forward to the luscious large berries they'll produce.
Don't think I'll bother next year....they'll all be razed to the ground!!!

My first crop of Autumn Bliss are in full swing I even managed to make a little jam from them today.  When I bought the canes about 28 years ago it did say that they would crop twice in the season and I have always managed this.  The autumn ones are better, but why waste the first lot, once they're over thats it, out they come.  Except that they still have their use because I dry the old canes to use as pea sticks.

Never, ever, never, throw anything out before you've had a good look at it and tried to think of a use for it.
