not so gardener friendly black birds
« on: June 28, 2010, 17:49 »
Is it just me or do others have a problem with BBs pulling there plants up and discarding them to wither and die. I went out to find half of my winter caulis turfed out of there pots this morning, they had been there for about three weeks unharmed.  I potted them up again and came back a couple of hours later  to find them all turfed out yet again. This also happens to any other random plant that is in the garden that does not have a secure grip on mother earth. :(

Not a problem with our blackbirds, but the pigeons and the maggies do it!   :( :( The blackbirds just chuck the compost heap around and empty the gutter over the front door!   :D

I have the same problem with blackbirds - ironically they only dig up my cabbages!?! Although now the redcurrants are ripening, they've taken to pinching the fruit, and are now leaving my cabbages alone!

Black bird pye hmm,I tried pigeon once, very nice with garlic, i think i have had squirrel too although the chef would not admit to it,but i have a soft spot for black birds, that is as long as i get some winter caulis .
They do seem to have a particular likeing for compost or in my case horse manure, i have watched them carry off a substantial portion of my last delivery so much in fact i was wondering if i could bill them. But what do they do with it I wonder?.
