I would be interested in how people lift their spuds, earlies, 2nd's or lates. I drag the bulked up soil away to one side and make a hollow around the plant. I then grip the base of the plant and pull the potato plant out of the ground. It is obvious where the spuds are so I then dig away collecting the spuds as I go. Once I reach the seed potato it's pretty much time to move on to the next plant. I do this because I tend to be clumsy when digging up spuds with a fork,I nearly always ruin a percentage,so this way I get a 100% return with no wounded spuds

I use a fork but put it in away from the base of the plant so as not to spear anything then move in closer. If I do spear one, it goes in the pot asap. I find the tiny ones are nearer the surface so, once I have got my fork under the plant and lifted it, I give it a shake, collect, then dig deeper and again then collect. It's surprising how deep and far the pots can spread.
