ive just dug up the first of my spuds got some good sized ones and loads of tiny ones so i asume that i was a little early but thats not the problem i was so happy with the crop and excited to get them home only to find that around half of them had tiny little holes in them with nasty little critters in them!    they are small under 1cm long, with lots of legs almost like a tiny centepede but sany coloured and alot smaller! What are they? how do i stop/get rid of them? and are the spuds they are in still edible?  thanks for your advice! oh but on a positive note i took some turips up and they look fab!

ill try but think they may be too small ive just been looking at wire worm pics on the web and they dont look the same as what ive got!

ive got a pic but cant find the lead for the camera! typical ha! i can tell you they have legs all the way along their bodies and they crunch when squashed and the juice that comes out when they squish is blood red in colour! the pics ive seen of wire worms look like they dont have as many legs. ill try to find the lead!

ive put the spuds in a bucket of water over night and all the bugs have come to the top of the water there were loads more than i first thought. will they have got the entire crop? what can i do to get rid of them / save the crop or can i stop them in the future?

I also have this problem, we have just picked our first plant and the number of potatoes is very small with the damage very disappointing.  I have kept watering them regularly as we have had no rain for several weeks. I am dreading picking the rest of the crop.
