why can't I grow spring onions?

I keep sowing them and none show or if they do one or two then they get about 2 inches tall and go brown and die.  What am I doing wrong?
Time waits for no man and I can't wait for growth.

Can you grow leeks, onions or garlic in the ground?
Wondering if you have the dreaded white rot and that it is getting the onions.

After that it could be the ground although onions appear tolerant of just about most soil types.

I have 2 small patches of spring onions and they look pretty pathetic.

If you have a large container you could try a container with compost and see how it goes.

More information needed before anyone can offer advice.

I can't NOT grow spring onions. I have them throughout the year in the ground and in containers so if yours are not growing something is going wrong somewhere.

Let us know soil/compost type, in the ground or containers, watering regime, any other crops affected

are you still using the same packet? the poor germination of some batches has been coverd here before, though that wouldn't explain the dying off...

having said that I'm the same, never grown them successfully - use shallots now

I've never grown them successfully either

Different composts, different seed packets, different years, different pots, different spots in the back yard.  Always get to a couple of inches high and then stop.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
