Is it early enough yet do you reckon that I could take the environmesh off altogether and let them stretch their legs?  Are the flies gone?

No, generally there are egg laying seasons for the fly, April/May - July/August. As you can see, we've just entered the latter.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
