Ours are in the greenhouse.  If yours are outdoors they will be later.  This is the first full year we have had a greenhouse and we've actually got two ripe tomatoes as well.  I am really excited (I lead a sheltered life :) )

Barbarella, you're not sheltered dont worry- its dead exciting having things grow and fruit when you have nurtured them (Im thinking akin to having children, but a lot less tantrums  ;) )

Generally true, but not when it comes to me and outdoor cucumbers; they always have tantrums (usually fatal ones!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Spherical cucumbers... anyone grown them?

Yellow ones (the packet says).

As usual a wee bit on the late side putting the seed in but they are outdoor plants - I had the seed so thought I'd experiment.  ::)

Mini cucumbers...the one on the right grown in a greenhouse, the other two outside. I'm impressed that I didn't get any repeating after lunch, even though I do a lot of bending.

We'll have to see how we get one..............

I grew them for a few years when they were called Crystal Apple , they are good to eat but not very cucumbery. :)

Thats right , lots of them 2-3" diameter with the very biggest about 8" but the big`uns tended to go hollow.

There was also a long fat cuc called melonie which i tried to get seed for but they had sold out.
Haven`t seen that one advertised recently.

I am growing both of these for the first time this year - the Crystal Lemon are in a trough with trellis on it and the melonie are in a greenhouse. The Crystal Lemon are doing better so far and are just setting fruit, the melonie look a bit pathetic - not even any flowers yet!

Thanks for replies re: "crystal lemon" cucumber....

Any idea how long they took to germinate?

I'm miles behind with these as they were only an after thought (or did I just forget them!) ???
Presently the seeds are in paper-pots in the greenhouse... 3 days and not up yet!!
(impatient or what?)  ::)  :lol:

4 up already!!  :) It's a very warm greenhouse  ;)

What next? Patience..... pot them on (as they are in tiny paper-pots) then cool them down a little as it is not so hot outside (amazingly)....

Then plonk them on the plot...

Is it necessary to pinch out anything at all?
Do you have to remove male flowers or just let them get on with it?

I am a complete learner when it comes to outdoor cucumbers.
