I planted some Pentland Javelin in mid March,they were nipped by frost,but not much.They haven't done very well,but my lack of knowledge was at fault too as I didn't fertilise them!the Desiree I planted have done a bit better and are flowering at the moment.Anyway,the P.J's  haven't flowered and there isn't an awful lot of foliage.The leaves are now browning at the edges and they look like they are starting to die.Should I just dig them up now and put it down to experience?

PJ's are ealies, can't remember if they flower or not but it sounds like time to dig them up and see what you've got.  They might surprise you.

As far as I could see my PJs didn't have any flowers either but I dug them up and had loads of luvly spuds.

It should be harvest time about now. Have a bit of a furtle first, see what you've got. If there is nothing much there, give them a good liquid feed and wait a couple of weeks, then furtle again.

i bought the liquid miracle grow for 2 quid at a local garden centre and traeted all of the potatoes and will leave till the rains come my earlies have averaged 3 potatoes per plant but with others growing so im waiting for the downpours

i dont care if the earlies are late it just means eating them later in the year yum yum

if the foliage has already started to die back then I think it's a bit too late to start fertilising.
Why don't you dig one up and see what you have?

I was thinking they may be dying back because they haven't been fertilised and may just need a boost.

They are probably dying back because they are ready for lifting. Get a fork under one and see what`s there.

dig the pjs and leave the desiree till all foliage is dead and dry. if the leaves on the pjs are drying dig now

always worth a quick firtle just to see what's been a'happenin' before you lift the plant
