Broody hen?
« on: June 23, 2007, 12:19 »
I have a young Scots Dumpy (age about 8 months) who seems quite happy with all the other 3 chooks and is laying regularly but last couple of days she has been pulling out her breast feathers in the nest box and and sitting on her egg.  I presume she is broody (we have no cockerel) but does it do her any harm to pull out her feathers and is there anything I should be doing?
I am a novice and have had chooks since last October and enjoyng watching all their little quirks.

No problem pam, its just a natural process, does she fluff up, and get angry when you put your hand near her, if so, she's broody, put six or eight fertile eggs under her :)  :)
