Hi, sounds like a silly question but how do I know when my cabbage is ready!! I have never even eaten one let alone grown one!

you can pick and eat them any time really, thinnings at the start of the season make a great meal  :) The longer you leave them, the bigger and firmer they get, right up to the winter. Of course, you can over-winter some varieties in the ground for next year as well.
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

Depends on the seasoal variety and the type they are. Some form a ball-shape and some form upright leaves and types mature at different times. Have a look at your seed packet to see which type they are.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
