no poop at night
« on: June 20, 2010, 07:55 »
anyone got any ideas why one chicken has stopped pooping overnight whilst on the perch ?
the other 3 are fine, Big Sal does not seem to be pooing at night, she always has a full crop at night, eats and drinks well, lays eggs and is lively, i am not worried for her health, but she does not poo, she seems to save it up, and does big poos in the morning, just like a broody, which she is not. is she just a bit confused, would fit right in here if she is.

Hi Grumpydad, my hens are definately pooing less in the house at night and I then find big ones in the run during the day.  I wondered what was going on but mine seem ok.  I will await with interest to hear other replies.

Yep, mine are doing it too so it must be quite natural at this time of year.

They are probably trying to keep the house clean so it doesn't get to smell in the warmer weather!  :)

I posted only the other day about my chickens saving up their poo till the morning then dumping it on my patio in an almighty momouth size  steaming start to the day. wonder why it is cause I used to get three "nice" poop piles every morning beneath the perch?

must be normal then, maybe because they are outside so much more in the long days, hope its good for the lawn though, and the patio set that they like to sit on during the day.

As we are nearly at the longest day  I suspect that you put them to bed later therefore may this be the reason why they are not pooing so much in their beds. This is probably more relevant for those of you who so not shut their chooks in at night. Just a thought :)
