Incubation - In on a Tuesday Hatch on a Tuesday?
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:24 »
Idiot Newbie Question.

If they hatch on Day 21 is day 1 when they go into the incubator or 24 hours after?

The day they go in the incubator is day 0, so it is the day after which is counted as day 1.  So in on a Tuesday, out on a Wednesday - hopefully!

Thanks both - fingers crossed.

My second hand Incy is a dud - gotta get a new membrane for the controls.  Never again will I buy second hand stuff on Bid4Poultry.  Now I know why he wanted a cheque not Paypal.  Said it was damaged in post but no way - arrived in a disgusting state, even had broken bits of egg shell in it.

My second new one hasn't arrived so I've just emailed them to cancel.

Fortunately I've found a company that does very reasonable ex-demo's so I have got another Rcom USB Pro arriving Monday plus a new membrane for the second hand one.

Frustrating though as I picked up 6 eggs yesterday, another 7/8 arrive in the post today and I get the last 6 tonight and now I can't start till Monday.  Grrrrrrr.

I guess I could transfer my current batch to the second hand one to hatch but I'm very wary of it letting me down.  The temp+ doesn't work and it turns as and when it feels like it.  The factory setting set it at temp 37.5 and the humidity buttons work.  I could disconnect the turning but it's a question of which is the lesser of 2 evils - risk my current batch failing at the 11th hour or risk my new eggs by leaving them 2 or 3 days.

I would leave them also. Couldn't you have cancelled the cheque + complained to the operators of the site?

Unfotunately they waited till the cheque had cleared before posting.  I have left negative feedback so no-one else get's caught.  That's about as much as I can do I think.

I could threaten them with small claims court I suppose but frankly some people are probably well used to dealing with angry buyers if they use these sort of tactics.

I have an electrician coming today to assemble my 2 new coops (don't ask :tongue2:) - maybe he can tell me if it's likely to let me down or not, but I guess waiting till Monday won't hurt.

Thanks all for your input.

As usual there will always be some-one who tries to pull a fast one.
I know of a scam involving fertile eggs but am relutant to post it incase some rogue reads it + decides to do the same.

I usually rely on Paypal to refund if there is any problem.
