another one! is this an epidemic?
« on: June 16, 2010, 16:37 »
I went to look after the chickens last week and noticed that now Rita seems poorly.  :(

Although, she is perky still, so Adam didn't notice there was anything wrong with her.
the reason i noticed was because i picked he rup for a cuddle. Her undercarriage felt like the belly of a pregnant lady.

Rita's the remaining ex-batt, and she was egg bound last year (and hasn't laid since), so i wondered if it was a backup due to being egg-bound again.
So i took her to the vet this morning. her temp is quite normal (106.6 as opposed to 106), so he's given her an injection to get her undercarriage muscles contracting, to see if that unblocks anything.
I'm to take her back in the morning if nothing has emerged.

so far, lots of tiny little poos and some big runny splodges (niiice).

i do hope it's nothing serious, but if nothing serious comes out in the course of today and tonight, the vet's going to x-ray her.

She seems quite happy now in the sop (upstairs and in the garden) - she's exploring and eating normally, and she just tried to follow a group of young men down the High Street! Brazen hussy.  ::)
