Hi all,
Apologies if this is a really stupid question.....
Please can someone tell me what the descriptions my duckling breeder gave me equate to in the British Wildfowl Standards and the Ashton's excellent Colour Breeding books? The ducklings I can't find in the ref books are:
1. Lavender Indian Runner
2. Lavender Magpie (is this the same as 'blue magpie'?)
3.Blue Indian Runner (is this 'blue dusky'?)
4. Apricot Indian Runner (is this the same as 'apricot dusky'?)

Are they called something else too? I bought from a well established breeder and wrote down exactly what he called them, but I'd like to know what to expect when I breed from them (I'd like to kep the bloodline pure) so I'm trying to find out about their genetics....

Thanks so much for your help!

Morning :)

I'm au fait with duck colour genetics (chickens are more my thing!), but lavender is a separate gene to blue.

Also from what I can gather, "dusky" is a colour modifier, so blue and blue dusky will look different.

Thanks Casey,
How do I find out about the genetics of the lavender gene? Any pointers for books/web sites? Thanks so much

The  Storey Guode to Raising Ducks has a lot about the genetics of duck colours. It is a bit complicated if you don't already have a basic understanding of genetics but I found it very helpful.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
