Sorry, I did not see the programme and wondered at what stage do you pick them and eat them?

I snipped mine when they were about 3-4 inches long. I only snipped as many as I wanted from the tray to add to a salad which is why they lasted me a few weeks. Give it a go - it's easy, cheap and it's a fab additionn to a salad.

You pick them when they're about 3 or 4 inches high.   I'm going to sow some today.  I noticed they were about £1 for a 50gm bag in the supermarkets.  They seem to have got on the bandwagon.  It's got to be worth a go  :)

I would LOVE some of these - whereabouts do you find them in the supermarkets. I am being really thick here but what section do they sell them in and are they sold to be grown into shoots or are they sold for cooking as they are?

Sorry I know that must sound an obviousl sort of question but I didn't see the programme and am just a bit confused as to what these peas actually are.

Many thanks.

MA.

They are literally baby pea plants. If you get a packet of Bigga marrowfat peas from the dried pulse section of the supermarket and plant them thickly in a tray or pot of compost, when they germinate and grow to 3 or 4 inches, snip some off and use them in salad or stir fries. The peas you want are the ones you have to soak for making Mushy peas, but throw away the tablet inside. Plant more when you start to use the first lot, the packet will do two or three plantings, depending on size of pot/tray.

Hope this helps.

Ah right I see......wasn't thinking straight obviously.
Thanks mumofstig and Tosca for your replies I'll add those to my shopping list for sure.
I usually cheat and buy tins of mushy peas - must be honest and admit to never having made it myself and as for growing peas....dont talk to me about that right now  :(

My back is giving me all sorts of problems and my poor little pea plants are now not so little and have nothing to grow up as I haven't been able to get into garden. Today was first attempt for ages and I am really suffering now. Still, got a lot of weeding done and have tried to support the leggy peas with some conifer dead twiggy bits for now.
Thanks again for info.

Thanks for reminding me - I saw Alys doing this and meant to get some dried peas but didn't make a note at the time and promptly forgot!

I have now written it on the back of my hand - now I wonder if Waitrose sell dried peas - they are probably too posh so I will look in the Co-op :)

Have pea shoots in quite a few locations now- quick easy and tasty! bliss!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....
