Cherry Trees

My Cherry trees had a load of blossom this year, but if there are 20 Cherries on the two put together thats about it. What's gone wrong?

Cherries flower quite early and it's very possible that late frosts got the buds and/or flowers. It happens sometimes and you can only wait until next year. If worried, drape fleece over them on any frost predicted nights in spring.

We acquired a cherry tree when we moved in 10 years ago. Blossom was the best we've had this spring but there seem to be far fewer cherries. I've noticed there being less bumble bees this spring and thought maybe the harder tan usual (recent) winter has killed of a lot of pollinatng insects.

Not that we ever get to eat any cherries as the birds get the lot. Anyone any ideas how to keep them off. Rook scarers would not be appreciated and netting is not practical for such a bg tree. I thought about putting a furry toy up in the branches.

Netting really is the only way but give the furry toy a try. Also buy some rubber snakes from a toy shop and tie them to some visible branches - birds really are scared of snakes.
