Dare I ask what these plants are?
« on: June 14, 2010, 18:37 »
(last time i asked it seemed to cause trouble so no fighting please...)

lots of stuffs popping up in my garden (first spring in this house so no idea whats been previously planted)

Plant 1: (could be a weed....)

Plant 2: (theres quite a few of these popping up in the boarder and in the middle of the lawn!)

Plant 3: (theres two of these, ones pinky-orange the others a rather wicked blood red, not shown)

Plant 4: (looks rather sad...)

Plant 5: (theres a few of these dotted about the wall, would love to take cuttings or whatever to make lots more....)

Shouldn't be much argument with this lot 'cos even I could have a good stab at naming them all.  But I won't as I am no flower and shrub expert. :)

Neither am I, but I'm game for a game!

1) dunno
2) Iris
3) antirrhinum (snapdragon)
4) dunno
5) sempervivum

(I'm a bit like this with crosswords; always a couple I can't get!!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Could #4 be a paeony?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Dunno.

If you can't eat it, I'm snookered.

I only knew Red Valarian as somehow it's invaded our garden and I can't get rid of the stuff. Grows in all the cracks.

Ok, here's my ten penn'rth

1, I reckon is a Ragged Robin, considered a weed but pretty.

2, Is a lily of sorts, I'd hazard a Day Lily and should come up with pinky mauve blousy flowers on a stalk, about 3-4 blooms per stalk that wil die after a day. Very pretty and also a bit of a tart as it spreads!

4, Is definately a Helibore - Christmas Rose, this will produce a papery type bloom in autumn to Christmas and will be either shaded along its petals anything from green to a deep red, they come in all sorts of colours from white through to the red.

If you want a darn good plant bible, treat yourself to a Readers Digest Encyclopeadia of Plants, mine has been a godsend since my parents got me one (they got fed up with me borrowing theirs!)

Hope we've helped, xxxxxx
