I too am not a morning person, but I water when I have to in the morning because of the    slugs  >:(.  If I water my poor seedlings in the evening, they are likely to be history the next morning.  By leaving the ground dry, I hope to give them better odds!

i always water first thing in the morning or last thing at nite on my own plot. As i work in a garden centre we have to water during the heat we just avoid leaves and water the compost in the pots it does'nt seem to harm the plants tho.

When do garden centres water their plants? During the day, sunshine or not. :D

sorry about the late reply been away at the garden centre i work at we start watering in the morning as its a big place this can go on all day at this time of year we water constantly as all the pots dry out really quickly we work between 8am and 6pm so watering takes place between these hours.

You should not be putting water on the top growth (leaves) anyway.  It's the roots that need watering.

When I used to work at a nursery, we watered the stock plants kept in a huge outdoor compound, using a sprinkler system. We used to start at 7am and finish watering around 4ipm. The plants never seemed to suffer, even in the middle of the summer on a really hot sunny day.

No two gardens are the same. No two days are the same in one garden.

Not about you I'm afraid

My point was that watering the leaves wastes water,  Costs money  :(

Rain is free I think Dave.  Unless mother nature has fitted a water meter  ;)
