Hi FG
feel the pods..you can feel when the peas inside start getting big enough to harvest. ..you want to aim for the pods being pliable and a small gap between the peas..definately not bursting to full. I'd probably wait at least 2 weeks or so.

So do they start out looking like mange tout? I have in some feltnham firsts with  a few pods on but they look like MT, I ate one that was very sweet and yummy, should I be leaving them to fatten up?

I just thought they looked very thin, runner beans are thickish to begin with.. but ok I will leave alonE!

These are a couple of photos I took last year of some heritage peas I was growing. Coincidentally, this one was taken on this day 2006.



This one was taken 2 weeks later



You don't have to wait long for the pods to fiil up, and with this weather, they should be quicker than last year!

Now Dave, that's not all true, the sun was shining alot yesterday, I was not at all sure where the rain was coming from as the sky was lovley and bright, but I was in Loogabooroga and it was raining like someone was chucking buckets of water at the car!! but sunny it was!
