has anyone out there got any advice for hatching cayuga eggs in incubator this will be our first attempt (we have 5 runners at present which we have had for 1yr) will there be any problems intergrating the two breeds or will they get along together and does this breed need its wings clipped to stop it flying off (runners dont fly) and if so what age should this be done? thanks all advice apreciated.

The only difference between hatching Cayuga and other ducks is if the eggs are very dark (they can be black through grey/green/blue to almost white by the end of the season) which makes them hard to candle.

They need to be under heat for the first few weeks (depends on the weather/shelter etc) and it depends on the temperment of your flock as to when to introduce them. Ducks are pretty laid back and mine have been all together since 4-5 weeks. There were a few little spats but nothing more. They still act like 2 different groups (about 6 weeks) but that will settle with time.
Cayugas don't need to be wing clipped, your runners are more likely to fly than this lot!

thanks I hadnt thought about candling being difficult so hope eggs are of the lighter colour will be collecting tomorrow so will see then.
