Have bought Desiree runner bean seeds this year - was informed that white flowering varieties set pods better than red varieties?  Decided this after a poor year last year.

Thing is I have potted and grown in glasshouse as packet says and they are just not germinating.  Have checked the pots and the seeds are just going slimy.  Sowed a second lot thinking that I had gotten the soil too wet - kept them much drier same thing is happening.  Just seen one out of 16 poking through the soil - no others - have checked below soil and there is either nothing at all happening or slimy beans - what am I doing wrong any ideas?

in my experience i've found white seeded runners are a lot harder to germinate than the speckeldy normal ones...

We bought white seeded and red and guess what ?  Our best beans are from seeds saved a couple of years ago.

thanks gardener247 maybe it's the variety then and not just me maybe go back to red flowers next year
