Wild Pony you are so right. They are the best thing since sliced bread
I have washed a few of my chooks knickers or bare rear ends that were a bit sore through feather pecking. I am sure it sooths them.
I have a plastic mop bucket that is just the right shape which I half fill with hand warm(not hot) water and a little squirt of hand soap as it is milder. You will need two of you one to hold the chook in the water and the other to gently massage the feathers in the water to get the mud and faeces off. I wear gloves to do this.
I have a towel on the table which I wrap her in once finished and gently rub the feathers to get most of the water off then let her dry naturally in the wind. I did try pegging her to the line by her feet but she kept falling off
I only ever do this on warm days and as early in the day as possible so that she can dry properly. Hope that helps
