Gladys on the left and Edna on the right after her knickers had been washed  ::) ::)

Every now and again we have to give her a wash as her back end gets so mucky. I wish she would learn to drp them properly  ::) ::) ::)

Edna getting her knickers in a twist  ::)

Gerty looking for food

Chooksville.......... They have the biggest portion of the garden.

They are GORGEOUS :tongue2:

I have an orpie who doesnt drop her bloomers at all. I think she is just too lazy. My rescue are the cleanest with posh fluffy knickers. I think they are so proud of their new wardrobe that they take extra care of them

It must be something in their breeding then ... dirty mares   My Welsummer and Welsummer cross are so clean and lovely looking and have a beautiful stance. My Sussex star is a cream colour from the dustbaths the 2 black girls(am I allowed to say that) are bare bummed and my Amber star is boss and pretty clean.
I just love all the different characters. The neighbours think I am mad as I am always takling to them but what they don't realise is that the girls actually answer me back

lol - my sussex star looks like she's been tangoed if the weathers wet and she has to dustbath in the bucket instead of the mud - they are funny baked beans

Keeping chooks is a darn sight cheaper than Prozac, I just love watching mine, 'specially when I've got home from a night shift and need to unwind, either that or the goose gets a cuddle

Wild Pony you are so right. They are the best thing since sliced bread

I have washed a few of my chooks knickers or bare rear ends that were a bit sore through feather pecking. I am sure it sooths them.

I have a plastic mop bucket that is just the right shape which I half fill with hand warm(not hot) water and a little squirt of hand soap as it is milder. You will need two of you one to hold the chook in the water and the other to gently massage the feathers in the water to get the mud and faeces off. I wear gloves to do this.
I have a towel on the table  which I wrap her in once finished and gently rub the feathers to get most of the water off then let her dry naturally in the wind. I did try pegging her to the line by her feet but she kept falling off  :tongue2:
I only ever do this on warm days and as early in the day as possible so that she can dry properly.  Hope that helps

you can also give them a blow dry with a warm not hot setting on the hairdryer.

One of our girls always has a dirty bum, doesn't seem to bother her at all, but someone was telling me about a rabbit getting 'fly blown' from having a dirty bum and had to be put to sleep  :(  the lady who told me this now uses a fly spray on her rabbits bums every month or so ... she seemed pretty confident that hems could also suffer from this  anyone know if this is true??
