Sweetcorn and kind neighbours
« on: June 06, 2010, 19:23 »
Completly new to veg growing, and having just set about sorting out the jungle of an allotment and getting a few Potatoes in few weeks ago. I have Just been given 2 sweetcorn plants and a couple of courgette plants from a very kind neighbour. He had more than enough and wanted to see me get a return for the efforts this year. How nice is the gardening community.   :)

The gardening community is fantastic, really welcoming of the novice.  :)

If you can get hold of some more sweetcorn and plant them in a block you would get a better result.  As for courgettes, well two plants will feed a small army once they get going.
Cheese makes everything better.

I was given an allotment less than two weeks ago.  Our neighbouring owners have been wonderful, given us masses of brassica seedlings, loaning tools, advice, and lots of rotivating/ ploughing to get us off to a start.

We have tried to repay.., I water their plots and my OH has repaired a lawn mower of theirs and practically rebuilt one of their rotivators so it now works for the first time in years .., but I still feel like we are more the in debt ones because they gave all this help without any idea that we would be able to help them out.

And yes, I am used to the harder side of the human race.., on the allotment we have seen nothing but the kinder side and its been quite heart warming to experience.

Accept and enjoy.  They get a bigger kick out of giving than you do from receiving. ;)
