very pale eggs
« on: June 01, 2010, 11:25 »
One of my hens has started laying eggs with very pale yolks.  they eat layers mash and roam free in  my (verywild) garden.  They also have water with cider vinegar etc. So what am I doing wrong?

I have 4 hens and 2 lay pale eggs and 2 lay golden yolks, the all eat the same and free range in the garden. They are just different. So I don't think you are doing any thing wrong.

Try giving her a green cabbage.  The colour of the yolks comes from eating greens (which is one of the reasons why battery hens have colour enhancers in their food!)

It's because they're young and new to laying. They will get more yellow, don't worry

Thanks to all for the advice.  I'll try her with some cabbage.
