Hi, when you thin carrots can you re-plant the ones you take out?

You have to be very careful in transplanting carrots, indeed all root veg.

The act of thinning out carrots usually means pulling them out. This destroys the fine root hairs on them, meaning they won't transplant well.

You can try by all means, but you need to be very careful in your thinning and transplanting and be prepared for disappointment.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

But you can buy pelleted seed and space them an inch apart - I'm not doing carrots this time - too much heartache without enviromesh I've decided

Yes it WILL work but you have to be careful. If, say, there are several carrots in the "same" space that need thinning I work my finger gently around the soil next to them, going a few inches deep. Then manage to release those I want removing often without ruining them. The soil loosening means, of course, they are easier to pull without damaging.

Immediately the ones I have removed go into individual spare holes (made with bamboo cane usually), watered. Each time I have done this the transplants have gone on to be proper carrots. Same with parnsips.

But don't go yanking them out forcefully or those thinnings will not transplant.

If you water well before thinning they're easier to pull out. I've never tried replanting though, I usually just eat the thinnings.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Last year we loved the little thinnings, then finger sized so much there weren't any left to mature to full size!
This year I've got 5 varieties and a total of 42' and that's without the Autumn ones!!! The Dig In ones in tubs got shrivelled by that very hot sun so more in methinks.
We're eating them now......should be enough .....
