My  ex battery hens are a little under the weather a friend tells me, she has suggested more protein and maybe spice. looking at the tin, I have tumeric and ginger on the shelf, can i use a drop of this, does it have to be a special mix? any advice welcome

Something like poultry spice (bought in shops or online) has all the ingredients mixed so it is right for the hens.  I cannot remember what is in it and maybe there is a version you can make at home but would let a more experienced member answer your question.  I personally use poultry spice.
2 Springer Spaniels, 1 Speckled Sussex,  1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Light Sussex, 1 Welsummer, 2 Barnvelders and 2 silver Pencil Wyandotes.

I personaly think that by the time you have got all it needs to go in it  and have worked out the quantities it would be easiyer to buy it. :)

plus you would need to know the correct ratios of each ingrediant.
Staffies are softer than you think.

What is poultry spice and what are the benifits it sounds to me like something I'd put on before roasting  :tongue2: seriously though what does it do?

it is a mix of herbs and spices and is supposed to be a sort of tonic/pick me up for them, not sure if it does any good but it can encourage them to eat. It does smell very yummy though

so if it doesn't do much, would I be better with one of the drink tonics on offer?

It says on the tin that it's a mineral supplement and it has in it minerals, micronised wheat, powdered ginger, turmeric, fenugreek and aniseed

Recommended for improving all-round condition and performance. Acts as a nutritional supplement to help the birds to get quickly over a moult.  Invaluable for rearing poultry, ducks, geese, turkeys and game birds

I know that pigeon fanciers use it as well

It's not expensive and you only use a small amount  :)
