My chickens are eating half the eggs they lay, how can I stop them doing this???

Hi teresac, welcome to the site, the problem could be, the egg shells are thin and weak, make sure the hens have some oyster shell at all times, also, try and collect the eggs more often, by the way, where abouts in the country are you based, knowing this often helps in giving advice on certain matters

Egg eating is a serious problem which can be difficult to stop.

How often do you collect the eggs ? try to get them earlier if you can.

You could try the following method that my mum told me, get an intact egg make a small hole at both ends and blow out the insides, make one hole larger and fill the egg with mustard, put it back in the nest box  

Worked for me.

We have some very experienced hen keepers on here so you should get more advice soon.

I tried the mustard trick, it did'nt work for me, them i replaced the mustard with black ink, that  way you'll find the culprit, and theres only one cure
