BONFIRES ON THE ALLOTMENT
« on: May 27, 2010, 14:22 »
Why do some people have to light a fire on their plots every time they are there!!!!??
One of my allotment neighbours always has a bonfire everytime he visits his plot. I am not brave enough to ask what the heck does he have to burn everyday
Do you think some people have a BONFIRE FETISH or something!

I know exactly what you mean.  I'm sure there are people where I am for whom the only purpose of the allotment is somewhere to burn there rubbish.

we have an 'only an hour before dusk' rule which reduces nuisance to neihghbours and other plotholders and seems to work quite well!

We're not allowed.

we are allowed 'sort of' but the council dont really like it.  would rather have a straight yes or no personally

bonfire fetish = my dad he is obsessed and burns such small amounts each time, I would rather have a decent burn and get it over with

I pulled down a huge shed on my new plot last year and stacked it up along with loads of tree prunings etc and kept half the plot fallow until bonfire night and had a huge burn along with friends, wine, jacket potatoes and chilli.
Not sure if I was allowed to have one as I haven't got a contract yet ( council isn't so quick round these parts).
Fellow plot holders didn't mind though as they were invited to add to the burning pile.
If I do need to get the incinerstor going I tend to do it for an hour at about 6 am so as to not annoy fellow plot holders and neighbours
I'm banned for being obnoxious (not pompous as you might have thought)

we are allowed to have bonfire on our site between certain times but I never have any thing to burn I am desperate to have one, brings back all those childhood memories !!my brother was forever lighting bonfires in our back garden and all the kids would sit around it cooking something!! apart from themselves, great fun, couldnt do it these days "too dangerous!!"
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

We can have a bonfire so long as the wind is not blowing towards the house's, but we tend to give all the burnable stuff two one plot holder and let him deal with it as he has got a bonfire fetish.  :)
