Get your hormones now!
« on: May 25, 2010, 19:41 »
Had two garden chemical reps in today and they both advised us that as from next year Hormone Rooting Powder is to be banned!  Apparently one chemical used (0.01% of the final product) is now totally banned so unless they can come up with a replacement the whole thing is banned.  So fill your boots while you still can.

I understand that water's next on the list.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Doesn't it have to be fresh to work though? No point stockpiling something that will be useless by next year. :(
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Yes, but the upside is because of all that stuff it contains less bacteria than bottled water.  :D

I know I am a cynical old thing but every time the EU bans something it seems that they punish the very small producer.  I just get the feeling it's more to do with protecting the mass producer than anything to do with safety.

Oh, and a complete lack of common sense and nannying us poor fools that can't use a chemical safely. ::)  It's for our own good, hah. :nowink:
Cheese makes everything better.

You can always use aspirin as a rooting compound if the commercial stuff gets banned

Hmm, if they do, (and there were rumours of it being made prescription only a while back,) maybe a concoction of willow bark would work?

Oh, and because these home remedies aren't being used as pesticides/fungicides/herbicides etc I guess that it's not illegal to use them either (and so we won't fall foul of the mods for discussing naughtyness!)
