Having had our girls for just over three weeks now, when should we be checking for eggs is there a way of telling when they are ready to lay, they spend about 6 hours free in the garden then in run and coop ( we have two gun dogs). They can't get out of garden but loads of places to hide a egg. We feed them on layers pellets they were approx 18/19 weeks old when we got them. Can't tell the breed as they are RIR X ??? any advice is always greatfully recieved, eggs are a bonus cause we wouldn't be without them already looking to extend coop and run.
two thing you should never worry about, yesterday and tomorrow.

Hi mpv, most obvious signs are reddening of their combs and they will squat in front of you as if waiting for a cockerel to mount them.

Hope they lay for you soon!!

the average age is around 24 weeks but some lay 21 weeks and others around 30, so as Grannie Annie says look out for the combs changing colour and their little squating dance
Staffies are softer than you think.
